A How-To Guide
Sam Hughes Elementary relies on support from Arizona public school tax credits to pay for essential programs like garden and ecology, music, art, physical education, chess, reading tutors and enrichment opportunities. Here is how you can help:
If you know your tax liability for your Arizona state taxes will be greater than or equal to $400 filing jointly, or $200 filing singly, you can:

Write a check or use the online portal for the tax credit amount you can support (up to $400 filing jointly, $200 filing singly).

Choose "Hughes Elementary" as your school

To help us keep our gardening and ecology program funded, select "Gardening Tax Credit" as your item

Claim the credit when you file your Arizona state taxes using Form 322.

Receive the full amount back with your tax return.

The Public School Tax Credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction of your tax liability. As long as your total liability is larger than the credit you claim, you will receive the full amount back in your Arizona state tax return. The earlier you can direct your tax credit, the more it helps Sam Hughes Elementary!
If you do not know if you tax liability for your Arizona state taxes will be greater than or equal to $400 filing jointly or $200 filing singly, you can learn what your tax liability depending on the forms you file. If preparing Arizona Form 140, your Arizona tax liability will be found on line 60. This is the amount you can claim via the Public School tax credit, and direct it to Sam Hughes, up to $400 filing jointly, $200 filing singly.

You can make a tax-credit contribution for this year up until April 15, 2024. The school appreciates early contributions as they help with budgeting. Contributions made through December 31, 2024, can be claimed on your 2023 tax return. Contributions made between January 1, 2024, and April 15, 2024, can be claimed on either your 2023 or your 2024 return.
If preparing Arizona Form 140EZ, your Arizona tax liability will be found on line 16, as on the screenshot below. This is the amount you can claim via the Public School tax credit, and direct it to Sam Hughes, up to $400 filing jointly, $200 filing singly.
